The wave of political unrest affecting the Middle East could create business opportunities for Indonesia, as investors from the region may shift their attention to Indonesia as a relatively more stable Muslim majority country, a sharia banker says.

Indonesia is a Muslim majority nation with a profitable investment climate and relatively stable social security situation, Indonesian sharia bank Bank Muamalat managing director Arviyan Arifin said in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday.

Malaysia used to claim to be the sharia banking hub of Southeast Asia, but now its market is getting saturated. This is an opportunity for us, he added, as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.

Arviyan said Muamalat stakeholders were currently trying to make use of this opportunity by approaching prospective Middle Eastern investors.
